We recently collected backpacks to distribute through local charities and agencies. We put the request out to our church families over the summer, and folks responded.
From my perspective as a parent with two young boys, doing local missions has changed my understanding about the significance of these opportunities. In the scheme of things, missions drives (socks, toiletries, etc.), don’t appear as “massive” in terms of numbers and impact as you’d think.
But for the families who participate in these simple drives, there is a grounding and reality check that teaches in ways VBS and Sunday school can not.
So it’s worth it to put them together, no matter the size of collection.
